The Ruin and the Road: A Tisha b’Av Readers Theater
This Tisha b’Av, join us for "The Ruin and the Road," a new readers theater piece written by Cary Mannaberg.
Inspired by the Talmudic story of Rabbi Yosi and Elijah (Berakhot 3a) and woven together with Eikhah (Lamentations), the piece follows a modern-day Mara as she returns to a sacred place that once broke her heart — and meets a holy stranger who will not let her stay in the ruin. The program includes live music, a guided ritual, and discussion for reflection.
We are looking for volunteer readers and actors to bring the four voices of this piece — Narrator, Mara, the Stranger, and a live musician (Lyre Player, who may also play cello, violin, or guitar) — to life.
No experience necessary, just a willingness to read aloud. If you are interested, please reach out to Cary Mannaberg.
